Visioning Workshop: New City Market- A Food Hub for Vancouver
Why is this important?
The idea of creating a central food hub for Vancouver has emerged as a key opportunity for:
- Recentering food in our lives through active participation in the food system;
- Contributing to a more resilient food economy by strengthened city/ farm linkages; and
- Serving as a resource centre for a wide range of community activities that develop and reinforce the role that local food plays in every aspect of our city life and culture.
What is the format for the day?
Through a half-day facilitated group discussion, we will explore the key performance areas for this facility, why they are needed, and how they can be realized. Your contribution at this stage of the project will help shape future phases of development.

Local Food First is a non-profit organization built of a coalition of some of the key members of the local food markets. Local Food First’s mandate is to catalyze projects that support the localization of the BC food sector by providing research, information, networking and technical assistance services to organizations, businesses, and individuals across the local food value chain.
Vancouver Food Policy Council is an advisory group to
Vancouver City Council, comprised of passionate people from various
sectors of the local food system. Members include farmers, food
distributors, nutritionists, processors, waste managers, activists, and
academics engaged in the food system.
